Things keep improving in that department and the vocals end up sounding like a mix of Rush, Queensrÿche and Overkill – yeah, that weird I know. �� Scala Mercalli are a no-frills heavy metal band with some thrashy moments (a bit of Overkill influence there also?) The less thrashy moments sometimes remind me of early Metal Church. There’s no pretention here: The band sticks to winning formulas and do not pretend to invent anything, sticking to playing some good old heavy metal (call it traditional if you like.) The vocalist is decent but the accent and the somewhat “whiny” tones at times could turn off some people. The demo ends on a cover of Iron Maiden’s “Be Quick Or Be Dead”, an interesting version that remains close to the original while still having a bit of Scala Mercalli’s touch added to it. Not bad. “My Daemons” definitely shows some great potential.
