Excessive rust, dirt and grease can be removed with a wire brush or by sand blasting. We have found electrolytic cleaning gives the best results. After cleaning the part, the Alkaline Degreaser is used to clean the last traces of grease and dirt while the Acid Pickle activates the surface ready for plating. If the chrome needs to be removed from the part I would recommend using the chrome stripping kit. Mechanically removing the chrome is difficult and likely to damage the part. If the item to be plated is badly corroded and pitted, then you will need to get the surface smooth before plating. If the pitting is not to bad this can be done with a buffing machine. If however the pitting is severe you will need to use our copper plating kit. A thick plate of copper can be used as a filler, then buffed to a smooth shine before applying the bright nickel. The size and scope of the items plated are limited only by the size and shape of the tank you use for plating.
