Description I turned this bowl from the wood of a big sycamore that grew in North London. It had a lot of ripple figure in the grain, which forms where the wood is under pressure, for example beneath the junction of a branch with the trunk. It also has spalting, which is the result of fungi growing in the log before the timber dries. In this example, the competing fungi created a mysterious network of wandering black lines at their boundaries. They are a prominent feature of this bowl. Related
