Green turned oak bowl with tripod feet, 19.5 cm

Description I turned this striking and unusual bowl from the wood of a big oak while it was still full of sap. As it dried, the bowl warped considerably, developing a leathery texture and wavy rim. It has some burr figure, with a number of small fissures. There is a gap in the rim where there was ingrown bark. Nails were driven into the tree long ago, and the metal reacted with the tannin in the wood, sending black staining up the trunk. The bowl has some of this stain. I gave the bowl three carved feet to keep it stable. Related
