Description Spalting in timber is the work of fungi that grow in it while the wood is still full of sap. It can create colours in the wood, and also wandering black lines where the different fungi meet. The lines may be single, or as in this case, double. A pattern made of parallel lines. The surface of the bowl blank also had black spalting. I turned away most of this as I hollowed the bowl, but there is a small area remaining at the rim. I thought this looked interesting, so left it. You can see it on the left in the photo. Related
