Description I was recently fortunate to acquire a log of sycamore that had a lot of ripple figure. This forms when the wood grows under stress, for example where a branch joins the trunk. The wood is also spalted, the result of fungi living in the log before it dried. Both these features reveal the history of the tree. I am working my way through the slabs, making a number of bowls. This one shows the ripple clearly, as well as some spalting colours, and I gave it a subtle outward curve at the rim. A very attractive piece, at least I think so. Related
